A requirement of the Gender Equality Duty, the Gender Equality Scheme sets out how the Greater London Authority will work for gender equality in London.  The draft Scheme does not cover women's expereinces of the criminal jsutice system.
 
 
23/07/2010 Government Equalities Office – Sustainability of Violence Against Women and Girls Third Sector
A high proportion of women offenders and ex-offenders have experienced domestic or other gender-based violence. Plans for the sustainability of the VAWG sector must include the development and sustainability of specialist services for women with complex needs including women in the criminal justice system.
 
 
10/01/2010 - Mayor of London's Health Inequalities Strategy
Women in the criminal justice system experience severe health inequalities.  The Mayor's strategy must fully recognise the gender dimension of health inequality and make specific provision for women in the criminal justice system.
 
31/08/2009 - Mayor of London’s Housing Strategy
Many women lose their homes whilst in prison and still more leave prison without adequate housing in place. The Mayor’s Housing Strategy should take a distinct approach to women (ex)offender’s to ensure that their housing needs are met.

 

20/07/2009 - Mayor of London’s Violence Against Women Strategy

A high proportion of women offenders and ex-offenders have experienced domestic or other gender-based violence. The Mayor’s role and responsibilities should be used to improve support for women offenders and ex-offenders who have experienced gender-based violence, increase their safety and prevent re-victimisation.

31/05/2009 – Response to the Bradley Report: a review of people with mental health problems or learning disabilities in the criminal justice system
The Bradley Report issued on 30 April does nothing to challenge women’s invisibility in a prison system designed for men. This response contains information and recommendations that should be incorporated into the government’s plans to improve conditions for people with mental health problems and learning disabilities in the criminal justice system.

A high proportion of women offenders and ex-offenders have experienced domestic or other gender-based violence. The first National Violence Against Women Strategy presents an opportunity to direct authorities to improve specialist service provision for women offenders and ex-offenders.
