Women in Prison was approached to support the playwright Hannah Silva in writing an audio play about the experience of being in segregation in prison. We knew this would be a welcome opportunity for one member of WIP's magazine group in HMP Downview, Karen, who had experience of being in Segregation and was a very talented writer having written plays in the past. After several months of discussions with the prison service and Ministry of Justice we were unsuccessful in enabling a recorded interview with the playwright. Instead Karen wrote a 17-page letter and prose on her experience which directly fed into the play.
